New Leaf’s Approach
The central goal of New Leaf Therapy is for every client to feel heard, validated, and supported throughout their therapy journey. Life is hard- relentlessly hard at times. Human existence does not occur without the inclusion of difficult times, losses, heartaches, and personal challenges. You do not have to face any of these hardships alone.
One of New Leaf’s main philosophies is to normalize seeking support when life gets difficult. Everyone needs support at times. Life’s struggles can be complex and even sometimes unsolvable or unavoidable- but they tend to feel a little less heavy when you have someone standing firmly in your corner as you navigate them.
Strengths-Based Therapy
An approach I use frequently is strengths-based therapy, which aims to empower clients and help them tap into their resilience to take more control of their own path. As a therapist, there is nothing I enjoy more than helping people see how awesome and capable they truly are.
Sometimes our life experiences, especially the most difficult ones, can trick us into feeling less-than. I want every client who walks through my door to leave feeling worthy, resilient, and adept to take on life’s next challenges.
Structured Approach
For those who desire or need a more structured approach to therapy, I am trained in many treatment interventions- including but not limited to:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT- often used to treat depression and anxiety)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP- for OCD and related concerns)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT- for PTSD/ trauma).
Internal Family Systems Approach
Internal Family Systems is a theory/approach I naturally gravitate towards as well, which explores family dynamics and childhood experiences, and how they impact ongoing functioning, relationships, and worldview.
One of my favorite parts about this career field is that I never stop learning. I use all evidence-based practices, and I make a diligent effort to stay informed and to continue expanding my overall knowledge and skillset.
Meet Genevieve
In my personal life, I enjoy having fun with my family and friends, spending time in nature, reading, traveling, and laughing as much as possible (I also really enjoy movies, and the occasional Netflix binge).
I chose this career partly because my own family has been touched by mental illness, as most families have been or will be in some way.
I am wholeheartedly passionate about what I do, and I do not take my responsibilities as a therapist lightly. I always prioritize providing ethical and completely confidential care.
I truly value and care about every client that I have the privilege to work with, and my goal is always to offer a space that feels safe, healing, and judgment-free.
